and food. Water flows through streams and rivers, forming the earth’s circulatory
system as it supports life and carries away waste for renewal. New forms of energy
are being created from biodegradable products. As a biological engineer, you can learn
how to control these systems to improve our health and that of our planet. Biological
engineering graduates use knowledge of the natural world combined with engineering
in greentech companies, environmental and ecological consulting companies and government
agencies to design products and systems that protect the planet and enhance human
life.

Jin-Woo Kim named 2024 ABI Established Investigator of the Year
Really tiny things are a big deal to Jin-Woo Kim. For his work in nanotechnology, he has been named the 2024 Arkansas Biosciences Institute Established Investigator of the Year.
Kim, a professor of biological and agricultural engineering for the University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture and the University of Arkansas College of Engineering, has spent years developing methods for turning nanoparticles into practical tools for medical, agricultural and manufacturing uses.
Nanoparticles are between 1 and 100 nanometers long, a nanometer being equal to one billionth of a meter.
